IDEA:
The Youth Center EGAS invites young people for various activities and
entertainments during the summer season. It includes organizing music
festivals and other performances in the open air. The idea is to give
possibility for young people from different countries and different
cultures to meet each other, to do something useful for the center, to
learn Lithuanian nature and to visit places of interest traveling together
by bikes
1st week:
WORK:
The volunteers will work on a number of tasks during the project:
making new footpaths, creating playgrounds for sport activities, putting
in fences, bowers, tables and seats. As a teem-building tool the
volunteers will be asked to help reduce the unemployment in the local
community by contributing to the completion of the village sawmill
(cleaning the area, making pathways, fences, cutting shrubs etc.). The
volunteers will undertake different tasks in the center territory by the
lake: taking care of or creating new paths, playgrounds, fences, arbors,
tables, benches.
2nd week:
ECOTOUR:
The rout challenges you to ride more than 300 km on a bike. You
will have the possibility to visit most attractive and famous places of
the region, and enjoy Lithuanian flora and fauna! Here are short
descriptions of some of them.
TELSIAI (Menagerie)
During your visit you'll see how thrilling the life of wild animals is.
Here you can see lovely fawns walking side by side the formidable boar;
if you are lucky you'll see a wolf or hear howl at night.
ЮEMAIИIШ KALVARIJA
The volunteers will spend a night in a homestead and will learn how to
make Lithuanian national meal. The town is famous for its hills and
chapels representing act of redemption. Religious people from all over
the country come to walk the so called Roads of the Cross, they believe
in the religious significance of the place.
PLATELIAI
This stop is a perfect time to relax and spend a night by one of the most
beautiful lakes in the country Plateliai. The volunteers will stay at a
campsite and enjoy the peace and serenity of this nature gem.
MOSEDIS
Mosedis is one of the oldest towns on Zemaitija region. The town's
surroundings boast of quite a few ethnographical and archeological
monuments. The famous Orvidш place and park, the stone museum are
major tourist attractions.
PALANGA
Palanga is the famous Baltic seaside resort, ambient and full of people
during the season. This is the last stop of the tour, where the volunteers
will be able to visit the famous amber museum, climb the hill of Birute,
or simply have some fun on the beach. At night numerous night clubs
and bars are open.

ACCOMMODATION/FOOD:
During the camp:
Cottages by the lake. Living conditions are very simple. Toilets are
outside. Showers are provided. Cooking is done by the staff of the
Youth Center.
During the Ecotour:
Volunteers will sleep in tents, schools or cottages. Bicycles are
provided. Volunteers will do the cooking themselves. Food is provided.
The volunteers will have a good opportunity to communicate with local
people, to meet international volunteers from the other camps.

LOCATION:
The camp is located near the beautiful lake LUKSTAS which is 3 km
from Varniai.
TERMINAL:
Kaunas and Vilnius airports.
Varniai is 170 km. away from Kaunas and 270 km. from Vilnius.
Regular bus service runs all over the country.
WHAT TO BRING:
Working clothes, strong footwear, rain gear, warm clothes, anti
mosquito cream, music instruments; tapes, CD's etc. Don't forget to
bring sleeping bags! If possible bring your own helmet.
MEETING POINT:
We ask you to arrive on the first day of the camp. The camp leader will
meet you in Varniai bus station. You will get more information with
the acceptance letter.
IMPORTANT!
No showers or other conveniences will be provided on demand during
the tour! Be ready to ride 50-60 km per day on a bicycle and consider
the importance of corresponding physical strength!
